Daniel Lee

Taking Chinese culture as a starting point, Daniel Lee incorporates his personal observations in his works, and conveys the fusion of fixed and indefinite contemporary phenomena. Lee uses the implied messages of Chinese zodiac animals to express his observations of contemporary phenomena and the personalities of the animals. Asians use animals to signify each year in a cycle, and people who are born in a certain year are thought to assume the personality of that animal. Lee employs half-human, half-beast images to express the equality between humans and animals, and rethinks from the point of view of evolutionary processes our self-positioning and values in this age of constant technological progress and unbounded replication.
